About Me
My wife Rhonda and I live in Ankeny, Iowa. I serve as the Telecommunications Services Coordinator at the Iowa Association of Municipal Utilities, a position I began in July 2011.
Prior to IAMU, I enjoyed 13 great years at Spencer Municipal Utilities (SMU). From January 2010 until my departure, I served as the Resource Conservation Coordinator, administering all aspects of SMU's resource conservation program, including energy efficiency rebates and performing home energy assessments. From 1998 to the beginning of 2010, I served as SMU's marketing director and was also intimately involved in the operations of our telecommunications utility.
In 2010, I became an instructor for the Rural Domestic Preparedness Consortium, which works through the Department of Homeland Security on rural disaster preparedness. Specifically, I teach a course called "Dealing With The Media: A Short Course For Rural First Responders". The goal of the course is to teach first responders how to best interact with the media during an emergency where reporters are likely to be present, and how to establish a strong relationship with their local media in order to get the word out about their organizations.
In my "other" career, I am owner of Music Man Productions, a mobile music business. I have performed as a DJ and host at over 400 events over the past 23 years, developing a reputation as one of the top mobile DJ's in northwest Iowa. Music Man Productions has now expanded to include two partners. My son Chris Dean began hosting events in 2009. Later this year, Eric Meeter will begin serving northwest Iowa. I will be moving my portion of Music Man Productions to central Iowa. The Music Man Productions website is at www.musicmaniowa.com.
I also perform voice-over work for several companies, providing phone system announcements and prompts for conference calling systems.
I am the proud husband of Rhonda Dean, a dynamic and passionate individual who has dedicated her career to helping victims of domestic and sexual violence.
I am also the proud father of three adult children. Sons Chris and Jordan are both graduates of Cornell College in Mount Vernon. My daughter Bailey is currently a student at Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny.
